In a small village in Bavaria in 1932, four teenagers are brutally murdered.
To appease the villagers, the local council blames the crime on a rabid wolf.
After rumours grow louder that the murderer must be a human or even a werewolf, Joseph Köhler, a notorious hermit who lives alone with his daughter Mitzi at the edge of the forest, is arrested as the perpetrator and, as he refuses to confess to the crime, the mood in the village council changes until the men no longer shy away from violence.
The women of the village make one last desperate attempt
to fight the madness that has gripped the actually sensible villagers.
